Frederick had finally realised where Daun's real attack was and entered the fray. Having had his horse shot from under him, and after attempting to organise a cavalry counter-attack, he eventually saw that he had to extricate his army and abandon the field. He did this by making a defensive stand at Pommritz, a village just behind his centre.
