We are now looking north past these two monuments to the woods on the other side of the Rodigen-Lehesten road. Holtzendorf, having come down off the Dornberg feature to the west to clash with Saint-Hillaire's flank had withdrawn towards Nerkewitz behind these woods. His infantry (supported by some cavalry) then emerged from these woods, towards us, at 10am, in echelon of battalions (left flank refused). But Saint-Hillaire's light infantry attacked the Prussian's flanks from dead ground before Soult's light cavalry moved in to destroy the retiring columns, taking 2 colours, 6 guns and 400 prisoners. Holtzendorf once again rallied his troops near Nerkewitz and was once again outflanked. Many ran towards Apolda, but some Holtzendorf managed to rally his men again and move them away to join Hohenloe at Klein Romstedt.
