When the Prussian infantry had marched down the ridge, they formed a dog-leg, so that the line ran parallel to the road from Lunstadt to Reichardtswerben before then crossing it at a 45 degree angle, at about this point in the road. This enabled them to bring an extended front to bear on the Franco-Imperial columns, standing as they now did straight across the enemy's line of march.
