Seven Years War : Rossbach

Having routed the enemy cavalry once, Seydlitz now perfomed another act of brilliance. For he had managed to control his jubilant cavalry and redeploy them in good order ready for another attack. He now led them around the villages of Reichardtswerben and Tagewerben to an area of dead ground where they could await the fleeing enemy cavalry in front of them. Seydlitz's men would have poured over this ridge from the shallow hollow behind and struck into the flank of Soubise's shattered cavalry. The true brilliance of this move was that this took place immediately behind the infantry battle currently raging on the Lunstadt-Reichardtswerben road. As a result, the now utterly confused mass of enemy cavalry was driven into the rear of an already crumbling Franco-Imperial infantry. The battle was over, and only the steadfast rear-guard action of two Swiss regiments (those of Planta and Diesbach) saved the remainder of Soubise's men.
